I was invited to design a landscape for a recently constructed automated milking shed on a beautiful dairy farm at the foot of Mt Maungatautari in Cambridge. The design of the landscape scheme is predominantly shaped by the way the farm now operates. The farm is organic, innovative, functional and, in a very technical way, partly self operational. The landscape therefore looks to emulate these characteristics by returning to the fundamentals of agricultural gardening and exploring self sustainable and productive gardening methods. Through the use of edible hedgerows and a forest garden, the landscape proposal intends to embrace permaculture and develop an agricultural ecosystem which is sustainable, self-sufficient and beautiful.
