Hallertau Brewery, Auckland
Based in Riverhead, West Auckland this landscape looks to blur the lines between garden and restaurant, to create a unique dining environment.
The new outdoor bar area is enclosed within tall in situ poured concrete walls which create an internal courtyard setting. From the beginning I felt it was very important for visitors to walk through and experience the garden in order to reach the bar – I wanted the architecture of the space to be revealed as you make your way through the garden.
Outside of the courtyard, native planting with a careful mix of hard working and suitable perennial plants re-imagines the external roadside gardens.
Tall hop frames surround the car parks to welcome and introduce customers to the brewing process. These create green walls of hops throughout summer before being cut back in autumn and serve as a reminder to the seasonal workings of the beer making process.
Completed 2016. Architecture by Allistar Cox.
