Surrounded by mountains in Wanaka, this clever piece of architecture by Roberts Gray Architects crafted several garden areas. This project has recently been awarded the top prize for Southern Architecture in Housing 2024 by Te Kāhui Whaihanga, the New Zealand Institute of Architects.
“This house by @robertsgrayarchitects is a masterpiece. A stark blank façade with a busy urban area gives no hint of the riches within – a restrained material palette of half-height concrete blocks, Japanese cedar and oak floors with raw galvanised steel. The cedar cladding has undergone yaki-sugi treatment, while the same cedar has been left raw inside. Complete with a Japanese-style courtyard garden at the heart of the home, the talented design team has created a stunner with their first project.” @NZIA

Completed 2023.
